Research Projects
Leading the fight against tuberculosis through cutting-edge research and global collaboration.
Research Projects
At IMLred, we are in a unique position to conduct tuberculosis research to improve TB diagnosis, treatment, and prevention. Researchers in the lab conduct microbiological, molecular, and immunological studies to understand TB pathogenesis, drug resistance, and host immune responses.
Approach:
The lab develops and evaluates new diagnostic tools and tests the efficacy of antibiotics. Additionally, it supports epidemiological studies by analyzing patient samples and monitoring TB strains for genetic mutations as well as utilizing extensive databases containing sample information from previous years. Through cutting-edge research and collaboration with public health agencies, our TB laboratory at IMLred plays a crucial role in advancing global efforts to control and eliminate tuberculosis.
Service Packages offered:
Our research team is qualified and fully equipped to consult, and conduct independent research focused on tuberculosis.
Our experts offer collaborative opportunities including but not limited to:
Epidemiological Studies
Design, data collection, data analysis and scientific writing
Tuberculosis Diagnostics
Past Experience:
TB-SeqDisK (2018-2022):
Development and proof of concept of a diagnostic test series starting with a microfluidic PCR cartridge for the detection of TB together with genetic resistance markers for isoniazid and rifampicin in clinical samples and provision of clean DNA for subsequent Next Generation Sequencing.
SeqMDRTB_NET (2019-2021):
Implementation and proof of principle of targeted sequencing for the acceleration of TB diagnostics in Kyrgyzstan.
RNA-Mark TB (2020-2022):
Development and proof of concept of a diagnostic RT-PCR assay on mRNA of TB bacteria for the monitoring of treatment success and prediction of treatment outcome
Epi-NTM (2019-2023):
Determine the epidemiology and resistance of non-tuberculous mycobacteria in German diagnostic laboratories from 2016 to 2020 and clinical their relevance according to region and species (approx. 400 cases to be enrolled).
National Drug Resistant Survery Nepal & Uzbekistan (2023-2024):
Systematic survey of the prevalence and incidence of drug resistant TB in each country with special focus on MDR, preXDR, XDR and the resistance of new and repurposed drugs.
LTBI among Health Care workers in Kyrgyzstan (2017-2021):
Epidemiology and risk factor analysis of latent TB infection among health care workers in Kyrgyzstan.
TB Contact Tracing in Kyrgyzstan (2017-2021):
Development of an improved contact tracing protocol for the Kyrgyz community and proof-of-concept study in two Regions of the Kyrgyz Republic.
